MJ Goodwin, Attorney, Lawyer

I was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  My parents worked hard to see that I had a good education.  Family values are important to me, as is hard work.  After graduating from Spartanburg High School, I graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Modern Language, with a minor in Business.  After being chosen for Jury Service during the summer break between my junior and senior years at Clemson, I decided to go to Law School.  I graduated from the Univeristy of South Carolina with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1991.  I was admitted to the South Carolina Bar that same year.

While in law school, I worked as a law clerk for the U. S. Attorney's Office and then as a law clerk for defense attorney Jack B. Swerling.  Both these jobs prepared me for my first job as a lawyer, an Assistant Solicitor with the Tenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office in Anderson, South Carolina.  I gained valuable trial experience while an Assistant Solicitor, from 1991 until 1994, and spent a great deal of time in both the Court of General Sessions and Family Court.  In 1994, I opened my law firm and have continued my trial work.

While I have a strong work ethic, I believe that a balanced life is extremely important.  I don't spend all my time practicing law.  I am married and have a son.  I enjoy photography, scrapbooking, reading, writing and horse breeding and riding.  I am a Christian and am a member of a local Methodist church.
